After reading the bibliographies of Sensei Louis Moseley, Sensei George Harris, Sensei James Field, and Professor Roland Duncan, I found these men to be great legends of Jujutsu, Judo, Karate and other martials arts. I have learn a few things from these four great. First, I started reading about Sensei James Field. He started his martial arts training after he got out of service. He started Shotokan karate in 1963. He had a dojo in Santa Monica. He was Chief instructor at University of California. He taught karate classes. He also had a knee injury doe to practicing to be a professional football player. He wanted to teach Karate the same way as his Sensei. He suggested that "Whatever makes you happy do it". He used to practice spearing. James Field was a poor person, but he was able to go around the world due to Karate.Throughout his training, he learned how to have patience.
Secondly, I read about Ronald Duncan. He was born in Panama. He started martial arts training at the age of 6 in boxing with Earnest Reed. His first Jujutsu instructor was Charles Neal. One of the things he learned was Chichitsu in 1957. Duncan learned to have the valuable element to focus. he also obtained a degree of self control. In 1957, he taught martial arts at Portsmouth Virginia Naval Station. He served as a marine. He looks for character in his students. He was a specialized investigator. Duncan was one who learned how to use weapons such as rifles, pistols, shotguns. He was a certified law enforcement instructor. At the end, he encourages others to learn and practice martial arts that it will be beneficial and devote time, energy and money.
Thirdly, I read about George Harris. He was a ninth degree belt belt. He was also a black International competitor of Judo in the 1970's. He had his first experience of combative arts at the age of 12. He sacrificed his job, and his children to play Judo. He mentioned that playing Judo was expensive. At the Travis Air Force, he began his training in Judo. He studied Karate, Aikido, Jujutsu and Judo. He was a member of the 1964 Olympic team which was the first Judo team. He trained hard and competed in competitions. He believed that after training, it is about what kind of citizen that the student must be. He learned throughout his training how to be disciplined. He encourages persons who are seeking martial arts to pick the right martial arts for the right reason.
Finally, I read about Louis Moseley. He was born on May 24th. 1926. He began his training in martial arts in 1939 in Chicago. He received his first degree black belt in Jujutsu in Japan in 1946. In 1954, he opened his first martial arts school. In 1956, he was introduced to Karate. In 1961, he recieved his black belt in karate and became an instructor for the United states karate Association. He was a program analyst for the United states navy, Great Lakes Naval base. He was highly organized during his training in Karate. One of the things he learned during his traing was Kata. He also enjoyed practicing Kata. His training gave him an opportunity to have tolerance of other people. Tolerance is defined asThe ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily. The most valuable elements in his Jujutsu and karate classes were discipline, personal discipline and his moviation was to develop the skill of learning Karate and Jujutsu.
After reading these biblographies, I can see the study of martials arts helping my personal and business career by having a sense of learning a martial art. For example, Roland Duncan was one who was an expert at using weapons. This technique can be used for persons who are training to become officers. Also, George Harris sacrificed his time, job, and children to play Judo. At the end, he became successful in Judo. If I wanted to became an officer, I would learn the same principles as Ronald Duncan did. I feel that discipline is an important thing that everybody needs because it helps a person to behave in a mannerly way and helps you to stay positive. Also, patience is another principle that everybody in life needs. A person who is patience waits until their time or turn. A person without patience can eventually becomes frustrated or angry. Finally, focus is a major principle. If one wants to be successful they must focus from the beginning to the end. In conclusion, despite that these men are no longer with us, we can learn from their experiences and try to be like them and continue the tradition of learning the martial arts of Judo, Jujutsu and Karate. They can help us in these kinds of time.
